WHAT IS BURNT CHURCH FILM CLUB?
"Burnt Church Film Club has become something of an instant institution" said Glasgow Live, and they couldn't be more right!
- We are DIY, we aren't Cineworld.
- We are a community cinema in the back room of the Flying Duck bar and vegan restaurant.
- We drink pints and eat food during our films.
- We make new friends and cheer our favourite characters.
- We worship at the church of Winona Ryder and believe all work no play makes Jack a dull boy.
- We are a community and a safe space.
- We are freaks, weirdos, geeks and all in between - but please respect us all.
Please do not act self entitled, we aren't really a fan of that attitude and it doesn't fit our ethos.
This ain't a chain cinema with all the trimmings, this is a community, these events are about people bonding over the best films - and remember, it's nothing without you.
WHO ARE BURNT CHURCH FILM CLUB?
There's a few of us, you'll normally see at least four of us kicking about the screening. Graham is our "founding father", whereas Matthew designs all our posters, programmes our screenings and trailers and also hosts! Our lovely David likes to be in the background, but he also runs the sound, the screenings - he basically makes things work.
Jacob, Erin and Megan look after the doors and help make your night comfortable and fun! Erin is also a bit of Instagram whizz, so she is our social media dude!
WHERE ARE YOU BASED?
Our home is in Glasgow City Centre and we call the marvelous vegan restaurant & bar The Flying Duck home. You can find us at 142 Renfield Street, G2 3AU.
DO YOU SEND PAPER TICKETS?
No, we don't see the need to waste paper! We will send you a confirmation e-mail shortly after purchase, just show this on your phone or printed out if you feel the need.
If you don't receive that e-mail or lose it, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
I HAVE A 'BILLING ZIP DISCREPANCY'. UHHH...WHAT?
Yeah, sorry about that. It's an American/Bigcartel thing. It basically means your address for delivery doesn't match the card you used, but since we don't send physical tickets...
I HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY TICKETS! WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Three step process. Firstly, check your junk mail - sometimes it sneakily goes in there! Secondly, message us to confirm the tickets have gone through or to get a duplicate. Third step? Don't worry too much, we have a list on the door, so we know who's coming and has tickets anyway!
NO MORE THAN FOUR TICKETS! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
Please DO NOT purchase more than 4 tickets to a screening. We are a small club and we want to give everyone a chance. If someone buys 7-8 tickets, it takes almost a fifth of the crowd - that isn't fair for a club that promotes community. Any more than 4 tickets will be invalid, and thus cancelled and refunded.
WHAT TIME IS THE SCREENING?
We tend to stipulate this on our Facebook event pages. A general rule of thumb though is a single feature is doors at 19:00, screening at 19:30. A double feature is doors at 18:30 and screenings at 19:00 & 21:00.
Although rarely, screening times are subject to change.
CAN I BRING FOOD/DRINK INTO THE SCREENING?
We encourage you to bring any food or drink bought from the bar at The Flying Duck into the back room, so yes please do! This is Glasgow and we believe in Buckfast, vegan mac and cheese and films.
The Flying Duck normally serve food till 10pm.
I CAN'T GO ANYMORE, CAN I GET A REFUND?
We don't refund. Each film we screen costs a minimum of £100, so every £2/£3/£4 we charge for the screening goes to that - we don't make profit. Post on the event page and 99% of the time someone will be looking for one!
WHAT ABOUT THE Q&As?
Although we've never had to do this before with our Q&As - filmmakers, actors etc. are busy people, so we can't help or be held responsible if one of our Q&As is postponed or cancelled, we also do not refund the ticket cost if so, the ticket cost goes towards screening costs not the Q&A - our Q&As are done with the understanding it can be cancelled at the speaker's request.
CAN I DRESS UP?
Look, this isn't even a question, I'd call it a demand, we love when people dress up like the charachters they love!
If you don't feel like dressing up though, that's fine - however I would recommend during winter months to bring a coat as it can get cold in that back room! (We have blankets too, just ask!)
CAN I REQUEST A SCREENING?
Yes, in essence, the film club is as much yours as ours. We have our liecense through the Filmbankmedia - if the film is listed on there, we can likely play it.
If you want information on how we run our screening & how you can do the same thing, e-mail us and we can advise you as best as we can!
I'M UNDER 18, CAN I COME TO THE SCREENING?
As much as we would love to welcome young film fans, as we are a bar that serves alcohol, we are strictly 18+. Sorry.
I CAN'T FIND THE ANSWER TO MY QUESTION!
That's fine, send us an e-mail at email@example.com if you have a query and if we don't know the answer we'll make it up!
